General Lee's Flag
ROBERT
E. LEE, General CSA
Robert E. Lee has to make a choice
Informed people of both the North and the South have
admired General Robert Edward Lee for almost 150 years. Contrary to belief
Lee
never owned slaves and while he didn't take a public stance it is written
he was ideologically and morally against slavery.
When the War started, the Virginian rejected Winfield
Scott’s request to command the Union’s field forces and resigned his
position as leader of the U. S. 1st Cavalry the day after Virginia
seceded.
"With all my
devotion to the Union and the feeling of loyalty and duty of an American
citizen, I have not been able to make up my mind to raise my hand against
my relatives, my children, my home. I have therefore resigned my
commission in the Army, and save in defense of my native State, with the
sincere hope that my poor services may never be needed, I hope I may never
be called on to draw my sword…" Lee in a letter to his sister,
April 20, 1861
My great-grandfather Gideon Miller and
countless of southern Americans fought and hundreds of thousands died
because of what they perceived to be a duty to protect their families and
land they called home. I have a feeling that it was the same in the
North, most of the grunts of the war probably didn't know what they were
fighting for.
I know it's not politically correct to take pride in
the confederacy and people of the south are still looked down on, but I am
proud of my great-grandfather who had to go all the way to Raleigh N. C.
from a little farm 100 miles away to join the Confederate Army. Gideon was
only a boy at the time but was present for many battles fought during the
almost 4 years he spent in General Robert E. Lee's Army. He was not a hero
as far as I know, but neither was he a coward.
After more than three years of war my great-grandfather,
being with General Lee when he surrendered to General Grant, came home
carrying a release from Appomattox, several other war papers, southern
money and one of the original field copies of the Confederate States
last official order, Order No. 9, signed R.
E. Lee Gen.
While I have no way of knowing who actually penned my
document, I do know it was brought back from Appomattox by my great
grand-father at the end of the "War".

personal collection which are guaranteed to be authentic, my original
Confederate notes are crisp, unfolded and considered to be un-circulated.
Since all these documents or notes were either hand
written or the blanks were filled in by hand. There
are no other documents exactly like these in the world, guaranteed.
While these
documents when framed, are indistinguishable from the originals by an
ordinary person, they are sold as
copies to be displayed and I do not represent
them as originals. However they DO
NOT have "copy" on them anywhere.
These digital copies are produced on 100% cotton paper front and back
(so you can see what the backs look like) with almost exact colors,

business for 20 years with literally thousands of people looking at them
and thinking they were the real thing.
Many teachers have bought these to
use as "Civil war show and tell".

Quotes taken from
"Recollection of Letters" by General Robert E. Lee's Son
General Long graphically pictures the last scenes:
"It is
impossible to describe the anguish of the troops when it was known that
the surrender of the army was inevitable. Of all their trials, this was
the greatest and hardest to endure. There was no consciousness of shame;
each heart could boast with honest pride that its duty had been done to
the end, and that still unsullied remained its honour. When, after his
interview with General Grant, General Lee again appeared, a shout
of welcome instinctively went up from the army. But instantly recollecting
the sad occasion that brought him before them, their shouts sank into
silence, every hat was raised, and the bronzed faces of thousands of grim
warriors were bathed in tears. As he rode Slowly along the lines, hundreds
of his devoted veterans pressed around the noble chief, trying to take his
hand, touch his person, or even lay their hands upon his horse, thus
exhibiting for him their great affection. The General then with head bare,
and tears flowing freely down his manly cheeks, bade adieu to the army."
In a few words: "Men, we
have fought through the war together; I have done my best for you; my
heart is too full to say more," he bade them good-bye and told
them to return to their homes and become good citizens. The next day he
issued his farewell address, the last order published to the army:
The ink has faded
after 140 years and the writing flare people used back then with the
"dip pens", make the document a little hard to read. This is the
translation.

THE SURRENDER
"HQ Army N. Va
10th April 1865
General Orderý
No 9 ý
After four years of arduous service,
marked by
unsurpassed courage and fortitude, the
army of N. Va has been
compelled to yield to overwhelming
numbers and resources. I need not tell
the survivors of so many hard fought
battles, who have remained steadfast to
the last, that I have consented to this
result from no distrust of them.
But feeling that valor and devotion
could accomplish nothing that
could compensate for the loss that would
have attended the continuance
of the contest, I determined to avoid
the useless sacrifice of those whose
past service have endeared them to their
country.
By the terms of the agreement officers and men can
return
to their homes and remain until exchanged. You will take
with
you the satisfaction that proceeds from the
conscientiousness
of duty faithfully performed and I earnestly pray that a
merciful God
will extend to you his blessing and protection.
With an unceasing admiration of your constancy and
devotion
to your country and a grateful remembrance of your kind
and generous
consideration of myself, I bid you an affectionate
farewell.
Signed R.E. Lee
General"

Hi Jerry,
Thank you so much for offering the Civil War document copies for
auction on ebay. I was thrilled when I opened the package. They were
even more beautiful than I imagined. I had originally planned to
give them as a Christmas gift to my father but I really don't think
I can part with them! I'm currently working on a scrap book for him
with all the information and pictures I can find on our ancestors
who served (personal info, regiment info, battles participated in,
etc). That may be all he gets!! HAHAHA! If I do break down and give
him the wonderful documents I received from you (and I'm weak so I
probably will!) I will definitely have to have a set for myself.
Thanks again for all the work you put into making them look so
authentic and for the tips you sent on how to display them. You have
a very satisfied customer here!
Sincerely,
Geneva
Hi, just to let you know
how much I love the Documents. I'ts like looking at the originals. I
have a copy of Lincoln's Gettysburg address and this will make a
great companion for it. I thank you so much for making this
available to the public(me in particular:);)) Thanks again, Michael
Jerry,
Just a quick note to tell you I've received my documents from you.
Thanks for a fast delivery and a great looking piece of history.
I do appreciate people who take to the time and effort to make
something like this available to other people to enjoy.
My documents will be framed soon. I also may be getting more for
Christmas presents as well. Thanks again for sharing.
Jerry:
Please email the address I purchased one previously and will purchase
two more. Super!

Dear Jerry
Thank you very much for the various documents. As you state, they
really are excellent once cut, folded and mounted. You are extremely
fortunate to have so many items from your great grandfather. Obviously
the copy of Order No 9 must be exceptionally rare outside of a national
collection.
Any war is tragic but civil war is perhaps the cruelest. Support for
the confederacy may be very non PC these days, but the south, like the
north, fought courageously for what they believed in. The north may have
won on strength of numbers and the industrial clout, but the valour,
courage and pure tactical brilliance of the south can not be ignored.
Lee was exceptional.
Your great grandfather was lucky to survive, the 33rd North Carolina
seem to have been present at nearly every major battle in the eastern
theatre. I am not sure to what extent musicians served in combat or
whether their duties were restricted to medical orderlies when not
boosting moral with their playing. Do your ancestors papers give any
indication?
Once again for these great pieces of history, they have added an
entirely new dimension to my collection.
With all best wishes.
Robin
Mr. Pegram
I have received my documents in perfect condition and I must say they
are triple the quality I expected. I believe there authenticity will be
very rarely questioned and I do think I will have a hard time convincing
someone that they are reproductions. I couldn't be more pleased . thank
you again
Robert
Dear Mr. Pegram,
I received the copies of the documents and I had to tell you of all
the items I bought through Ebay, yours are my prize. The quality and
amount of detail are excellent. I'm a civil war buff and try to collect
as many items as I can and read everything there is about it. Your
also one of the lucky ones to have your families historical items from
the Civil War. I have a few personal and farm items from my great great
grandpa, great grandpa and grandpa but nothing like what you have. I
hope your family appreciates the treasures as much as you do.
Thanks again, Shane
Dear Jerry,
I am stunned by the realism of these
documents! They are everything that you said they would be.
Thank you for finding a way to share these
family treasures with the rest of us. You must have worked very hard
to get those papers & money to that high of a standard of quality.
I also want to thank you for sharing your
family history & the photo of your Great-Grandfather. I appreciate
that.
Thank you for being such an honorable
man...the world definitely needs more like you!
With fondest regards,
Rebecca

This seller not only delivered beautiful documents but also found I
had overpaid and not only notified me of the mistake but insisted on
sending me a check for the difference. I would buy again and highly
recommend this seller. Thanks so much
Dear Jerry,
I have received the documents. Thank you very much for them they are
great. They don't look like copies. They are very good quality and I
thank you once again. I gave them as a gift and they are very pleased
with them. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rebecca
Hi Jerry! This is Tracey again. Today I received my missing document.
Once again, I was pleased by your punctuality, but I must admit that I
was taken completely by surprise to find that you had also sent me a
complete new set plus the document I was missing before (not to mention
the hand written note of apology). I am truly grateful, and would like
to say that you are definitely the best person I have ever conducted
business with. AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Hello , I received my documents on Friday. I am really anxious to get
them
framed. I really enjoyed reading the extra history you sent along. How
lucky you are to have all the wonderful Civil war artifacts you have.
It
always makes me happy to hear of some one who has wonderful old things,.
especially some one like you who treasures them so much. Thanks for
sharing, Ida
Received the documents in today's mail. They look great!! Can't
wait to
frame them and put them up on the wall.
I appreciate reading the history of your relative. I'm very much into
history; the Civil War being one of the most interesting periods for
me. I
also appreciate the fact that you typed out what was written on the
documents, making it clear what was written.
Thank you so much for sharing this with others. I think this is the
greatest thing I've ever gotten on E-Bay!
Thank you again,
Marlene
Hi Jerry,

awesome job on the copies-they do look authentic! Thank you for
sharing this marvelous piece of history with us!!!!!!! I hope when

they are such an important piece of American history.

Dear Jerry,
I received the cloned copies of the Civil War
documents today. I am really impressed with the authentic look as if
they were the originals. I will frame them and I commend you on your
honesty and guarantee of satisfication. It is really great to
have a seller with your of caliber on Ebay.
Roy in Indiana
I received my documents in excellent
shape and am really impressed! They
look so original! I'm going to have
mine framed for my grandson who is
extremely interested in the Civil War
period right now. He had at least
5 ancestors (on his maternal side alone)
who fought in this war.
And the Confederate money looks real
too - I have one real bill and except
for wrinkles, fading, etc. they
cannot be distinguished one from the other.
Again, thank you for such an excellent
product.
Marsha Faulk
Jerry,
Thank
you so much for the wonderful copy of this historic document.. It
is much more than what I expected.
I do have
a question about what is written on the back of the surrender
document. The following is located at the bottom of the page if you
flip it over. It looks like it says "Gen Lee address to the
(something) at (something)
On the
other end it looks like the word Appomattox but I am not sure.
Thanks
for any info that you can provide...
Jim
Radmore a very satisfied E-bayer...
Dear Jerry,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you. I was very thrilled
with the items you sent me.
You do an excellent job in putting this together, and they look
authentic, and real. I would like to know what other items you have.
Again thank you very much for
your expert workmanship and time in these.
Edward
Hi Jerry, just a note to let you know that I received my documents
yesterday. I am very pleased with their quality and clarity. They will
make
an excellent display piece within our collection. Thanks for the fast,
friendly service. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Thanks
again.
Rick.
( Positive feedback has been left.)
I just wanted to send this to say thank you!! I
recently received the SURRENDER DOCUMENT and my fiancée
really loved it!! He's already got it framed next to
a lot of his auth. CSA paper money. Do you sell many
things on eBay? If so I'll try to keep an eye on your
auctions. Again thank you and have a great year!
Jerry,
These are great documents, they will make a good addition to my
collection. Thanks for the really fast response and sharing documents
that most of us will never see much less be able to display.
Thanks again, Dan
Jerry:
Just a quick note to inform you that I received the R.E. Lee Documents
earlier this week. I am VERY pleased with them and have left feedback
for you on eBay. If you have not done so, I would appreciate it if you
would do the same for me. Thank you for your fast delivery. I look
forward to doing business with you again in the future. I thought that
you did a terrific job on these copies and you are to be congratulated
on their quality!
